The perfect eclipse gift for everyone on your list

A total solar eclipse gift helps special memories live on.

As my family sat around the Thanksgiving table this year, all of us reflected on how thankful we were to experience the 2024 total solar eclipse in Texas.

If you were one of the 50 million people who saw it last April, I bet you, too, are grateful for the memory and are looking for ways to keep it alive for years to come. Perhaps you're looking for the perfect eclipse gift for everyone on your list, like I was after seeing my first total solar eclipse.

An eclipse gift-giving story

Back in 2017 I took an ambitious DIY approach to eclipse gifts. I took a composite of my eclipse photos, added special edition USPS total solar eclipse stamps, and finished it all with a map of the eclipse path cut out in gold foil using my newly acquired cutting machine. My husband made custom mats and I framed it all in a one-of-a-kind collage.

Did my family think I was nuts? Of course they did. Did they say anything to me—a sleep-deprived mom of a colicky newborn angerly wading up partially cut pieces of finicky foil? No they did not.

My oldest daughter's expression sums up maternity leave with a colicky newborn. My family knew better than to criticize my eclipse DIY project.

It was worth it in the end. My mom’s is still hanging in her guest bathroom. My mother-in-law’s is in their family room. Ours is in my office and reminded me every day the clock was ticking to get that idea I had for a children’s picture book out of my head and onto the page.

I’m not sure what my mail lady did with the one I gave her, but I bet it comes up whenever she's asked if she gets holiday gifts from people along her route. (I think she liked it because we never got one of those “more postage needed” notes again.)

The perfect eclipse gift for everyone on your list

Since I did manage to get that children’s book idea into the world, you don’t have to work nearly as hard or spend as much money to give the perfect eclipse gift to your teachers, friends, loved ones and mail carrier. Here are just a few reasons my book fits the bill as the perfect gift for everyone on your list this holiday season:

  • The memory page in the back makes it a personable and timely keepsake.

  • The fact it’s a book means it doesn’t take up much space on a shelf, but it also looks good on a coffee table.

  • Kids and adults love it for different reasons.

  • It’s a conversation starter for people of all ages about a subject that typically sparks joy.

  • It's extremely affordable and it supports a small business.

Special holiday pricing

This holiday season, paperbacks are $9.99 from my website and $10.93 on Amazon. Purchasing directly from my website is the best way to support me and I'll sign it. (Be sure to note any special signing requests when you order directly from my website.)

In our increasingly fast-paced world, moments of connection—with nature, with family, with something larger than ourselves—are invaluable. For me, and I hope for you, the 2024 total solar eclipse is a memory to cherish.

Let's keep shining together,

Jayme
